The aftermath from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Phew -- so doing that Facebook Live was quite an adventure! I didn't go back and watch it, but I know a few areas where I could do things differently. But I'm OK with that. What am I always telling people? It'll never be perfect the first time -- gosh -- it'll probably never be perfect! However, one learns from experience, and I spent the morning walking through the presentation, moving from chair to chair, standing up to hold the quilts, and prepping fabric or whatever I needed as I did the walk-through.

I had an agenda on a ...

Project QUILTING 14.5: Sew Not a Square from Goer

This week the Project QUILTING challenge is Sew Not a Square. Specifically, the quilt could not be a square or have any squares in it's composition. "use no square shapes in doing it"

I was out of town until Monday evening on my trip to QuiltCon and came down with symptoms and tested positive for Covid on Tuesday evening {whomp whomp} so I've been isolating from my family. I've also had limited energy as you can imagine. I still wanted to participate in this week's challenge so I grabbed a few supplies from my studio to ...

Welcome back everyone!
We invite you to join the
Ambassadors as we show
off our fun group project...
TOTE BAGS:)
There is some
adventurous stitching!

Our mission was to
reinterpret the logo
shown below and
that was really the
only rule other than
making a bag:)
Look at these gorgeous
fabrics we had to play with.
This is the Wave Texture
basics line by
Based on the logo, I chose
Sky, Fuchsia, and Lime.

Wave texture fabric from Benartex

I love playing with this
simple petal shape and
 I knew that I would
do hand applique'
with embroidery,
so here is BloomX:)

I ...

That Perfect Border from From the Strawberry Patch...

I'm sure you've had that same feeling that I experienced recently; it's that victorious sense of accomplishing something great when you stumble upon that one, perfect, solution to a problem. I'd finished piecing the center of this quilt completely from my stash. I kept thinking, the whole time, "I'll find something to border this with when I need it." But, truth be told, I wasn't fully convinced

Licorice Allsorts update from Wendy's Quilts and More

I've finished all the hand embroidered blocks for my Licorice Allsorts quilt, so now it's time to start machine piecing the other blocks.

There's actually one more embroidered block in my cupboard, but how do you fit 10 photos in to a grid!

Here's the first machine pieced block that sits in the centre of the quilt:

It's only 6" finished which is smaller than I imagined.  But I do love these colour combos and am looking forward to making more blocks next week.

Here's what the finished quilt will look like:

Stitching Kindness from From the Strawberry Patch...

Accepting the challenge that my small stitching group threw out there earlier this summer, last week I began setting together the blocks from Susan Ache's "Stitching Kindness" sew-along. As someone who has a deep love for all things red and white, this was an easy one for me to participate in.The block sub-unit looks much like the Swiss flag to me! This one goes together in rows rather than

Slow Stitching Sunday from Sue Daurio's Quilting Adventures

Yep that's right, me not only slow stitching but loving it! I thought binding would be the easiest hand to do.  If I didn't like binding I wasn't going to like any hand work at all.  Oh was I wrong, I hated binding.  I started hand embroidery and I just feel in love with it.   I'm just learning so my stitches have a way to go, but I'm enjoying getting there.  Today I'm working on my Squash Squad by Sue Spargo.  Squash #4 almost done.

I started this summer when we were on a ...

Appliqué Academy: Woodland Reverie—Owls and Wood Roses from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

It is that time of year again! The catalog of classes has now been published, and we can finally reveal what we will be teaching at the Academy of Appliqué in Williamsburg, Virginia in 2023. Check out that catalog of wonderful offerings, and you will have a difficult time deciding what classes to enjoy: there are so many amazing instructors with a wide variety of techniques and skills presented. We do hope you will keep scrolling all the way to the end (p. 58) to see our classes, but we will show you a bit of detail here, too.

Nesting Nuthatch from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

We are thrilled to have had such a great response to our Blue Jar Medley offering, Nesting Nuthatch! If you have followed us for any length of time, you will know that birds of all kinds are near and dear to our hearts. I (Kara) particularly love the nuthatch, as it was one of my Grandmother's favorite birds.

There are a few new techniques in this block—none of which are difficult, but we thought we would show some more detailed pictures for some of those techniques. Let's show you the nest according to your pattern directions.
